In 1962 TVR commissioned designer Trevor Fiore to style a new body for its Griffith, and the car was shown by the Italian coachbuilder Fissore as the Trident at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1965. When TVR’s company collapsed, the project was abandoned, and TVR dealer Bill Last bought the design rights and tooling to build it himself.
Trident built its cars first at Woodbridge and then at Ipswich in Suffolk. The V8-engined Clipper was followed by the Venturer, with a Ford V6, and the Tycoon, with a Triumph six-cylinder engine, but production was always tiny: around 130 cars were made between 1967 and 1977, when the company became insolvent.
The name was revived in 1999 by a new company at Fakenham in Norfolk, which showed the Iceni sports car prototype in 2000, but it did not reach series production.
